Grant for Van
Imagine not being able to go to a store, out
to eat, or visit a friend.
Imagine having to rely on public transportation
every time you needed to see a doctor, attend church, do banking or
having to arrange transportation weeks in advance.
Now imagine being able
to go anywhere!
Which is what happened for many Welcome House
clients when a $50,000 grant from Eva L. and Joseph M. Bruening Foundation
was awarded to Welcome House to purchase a Ford Paratransit Van. This
vehicle provides safety, convenience and more importantly independence.
Although the van is available to all Welcome
House clients, the new van is housed in Olmsted Falls at one of the newer
sites where four women live, three of them in power wheelchairs. For
their first outing in the new van, Executive Director Tony Thomas transported
the women to Wal-Mart for a shopping extravaganza. The women were thrilled,
not only because they were being chauffeured by Tony Thomas but because
they were finally able to go shopping!
