History

In 1972 West Haven Foundation was established as an Ohio tax exempt non-profit corporation. The Steudel Family founded and developed a Board of Trustees. The objective was to develop and operate a group home for eight adult men with mental retardation on Cleveland’s west side.

Why we do what we do.

The Steudel's wanted their son Bill to live with a group of his friends. In 1981 Welcome House II, the first group home for men in four counties, was opened. Sadly, the Steudel's did not live long enough to see Bill move in. Welcome House was developed in 1994.

Welcome House, Inc., is an Ohio not-for-profit corporation founded and developed by the Board of Trustees of the West Haven Foundation, to be a direct service provider. The Welcome House Articles of Incorporation state that the purposes of the Corporation are: "to operate for the benefit of, or to perform the functions of, or to carry out the purposes of assisting individuals who are Intellectually and Developmentally Disabled (IDD)."

Today Welcome House provides services to over 130 adults. The Steudel Family would be very proud. Bill still lives at Welcome House II.
